The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Program Aide at the Mabee Center, located in Fort Worth, TX.  

Job Summary: 

Leads children’s activities at a child careprogram, including classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and/orspecialized programs; prepares and serves children lunch and snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the child carearea. 

 

 

Essential Functions:

Child Care Responsibilities (60%)  

 

Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure and healthy manner. 

 

Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children’s mealtime encouraging conversation. 

 

Exhibits control of the children and, when needed, displays proper discipline techniques. 

 

Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). 

 

Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner. 

 

Administers basic first aid as necessary; reports any health issues with supervisor in accordance to policies and procedures. 

 

 

Organizing, Planning, and Teaching Lessons (20%)  

 

Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities. 

 

Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same. 

  

Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities. 

 

Maintains the after-school materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any supplies necessary for after school programs. 

 

 

Cleaning Responsibilities (10%)  

 

Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, table, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards. 

 

 

Driving Responsibilities (10%) 

 

Transports or assists with transportingchildren whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times. 

 

Assists in leading children on field trips. 

 

 

Other Responsibilities: 

Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions. 

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development. 

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children. 

 

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. 

 

Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum. 

 

Ability to plan, develop and implement effective childhood programs and activities. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

 

Educationand Experience: 

High school diploma or G.E.D. required, 

 

and 

 

twoyears experience teaching child development programs, 

 

or 

 

anyequivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities 

 

 

Certifications: 

CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtainwithin established timeframe) 

Valid State Drivers License 

 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Ability to meet attendance requirements. 

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. 

Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. 

Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis. 

Moderateamount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying lightto moderately heavy objects (less than 50lbs.) frequently.

 

Working Conditions: 

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
