Location: National Capital Area Command – Turning Point Center

Position Type:    Regular Full-Time/Hourly

Pay Range: $21.73 - $27.16/hour

About this opportunity:

This position is responsible for the general supervision of the Residential Program Director, the Building Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled maintenance work for the building and grounds, as well as duties for apartment turnover. Participates in the day-to-day general operation, maintenance, and repair of the Salvation Army Turning Point Center for Women & Children and Harvard St. EMAST; ensures the building and all equipment are properly maintained and repaired; performs minor to intermediate repairs; observes safety hazards.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Two years of coursework from a technical or vocational school in construction, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning as well as plumbing and electronics, electrical, and construction trades.
  • AND
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience performing skilled maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds.
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License and must meet TSA MVR Requirements

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like are possible.
