The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Divisional Music Director for the Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi Divisional Headquarters office, located in Jackson, Mississippi.


 


Job Summary: Plans, administers and conducts the development and performance of youth and senior music sections of The Salvation Army Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Division; monitors all musical forces in the division including Corps area and divisional music groups; develops musical standards by teaching music at the Corps and divisional level; develops, implements and leads virtual educational, practice and information sessions on a regular basis; creates and publishes a variety of hard copy and electronic publications for distribution to various levels of leadership and program participants; maintains various social media platforms; educates and develops leadership for all Corps music programs; organizes and plans all music days, camps, and conservatories; serves as a resource person for information and materials to music leaders and Corps Officers.


As an active uniformed Salvationist in good standing, the Divisional Music Director promotes the development, improvement, and advancement of the music program in the Salvation Army by instruction and example and encourages and guides participants’ involvement in worship and evangelistic outreach in the Division. The Divisional Music Director regularly attends, is an active soldier in a local corps, and is actively involved in the local programs to the extent that divisional duties allow.


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of music education. Knowledge of The Salvation Army music - brass and vocal. Knowledge of the general practices of personnel supervision and budget administration. Skill in teaching instrumental and vocal techniques. Skill in conducting ensembles involving all age groups in both large and small groups. Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes. Ability to prepare effective audio/visual materials for promotional and educational purposes. Ability to manage Web content on various social media platforms for the ALM Division. Ability to effectively coordinate and lead virtual sessions on a variety of topics to various levels of leadership and program participants. Ability to communicate effectively with young people in a teaching environment. Ability to organize and maintain a music library.


 


Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education or a related field, and five years experience leading musical groups, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


 


Licenses and Certifications:Valid State Driver’s License. Approved Driver under The Salvation Army Driver Qualification Program.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to read and hear music notes. Ability to play music instruments. Ability to perform in front of a large audience. Ability to be approved as an eligible driver under The Salvation Army Driver Qualification Program. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading a musical band during performances. Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking. Work is performed in a normal church environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work involves moderate amounts of travel. Work may involve exposure to outdoor temperatures and changes in weather or discomforts associated with outdoor performances.
