Location: The Salvation Army’s Georgia Divisional Headquarters

About this opportunity:

Supervises, plans, directs, and coordinates the work of Youth Programs Summer Camp Staff and EQUIP Training. Assists and partners with the Corps Officer(s) in developing mission outreach and growth in locations as requested.  Serves as a consultant and constant source of fresh ideas for programs in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas. Manages, establishes, tracks, and reports measurable outcomes to demonstrate Corps/mission growth.  Manages, and prepares records, logs, and monthly youth reports. Submits monthly youth reports to Territorial Headquarters. Assists with the planning of Divisional Youth Councils. Plans and administers departmental budget.

Key responsibilities:

  • In cooperation with the Divisional Youth Secretary, plans and conducts, Divisional events such as Rallies, Youth Councils, Young Adult Retreats and Camps.
  • Assists with the recruitment of Candidates through all the youth programming for the entire Division.
  • Assists and partners with the Corps Officer(s) in developing mission outreach and growth in locations as requested; assesses local community needs and advises Corps Officer of findings; identifies specific areas to target for outreach growth; encourages and helps to train Corps members for mission; develops a Corps mission team where possible.
  • Works closely with the Divisional Youth Secretary to maintain continuity throughout the Youth Department to ensure efficient operation of the total Youth Department.
  • Consults with the Divisional Youth Secretary on a regular basis for information with respect to department policies, needs, budget, programs, and goals where conflict with existing policy appears likely or where policy changes seem merited providing supporting report to the Divisional Youth Secretary.
  • Serves as a consultant and constant source of fresh ideas for programs in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas.
  • Manages, establishes, tracks, and reports measurable outcomes to demonstrate Corps/mission growth; establishes means to identify source of growth and cross participation.
  • Promotes Divisional and Territorial Sunday School campaigns; sends flyers and campaign details to copiers; receives and reviews campaign reports to determine award winners; arranges for awards to be given and plans a victory celebration.
  • Promotes the cultivation, development, and advancement of all aspects of the Character-Building Programs.
  • Manages and performs field visits for United Events, Youth Evangelistic efforts, Training Programs, Consultations, etc. as approved by the Divisional Youth Secretary.
  • Cooperates with the Divisional Youth Secretary in accomplishing the goal of quality youth programming in the Division. Develops and interest in all phases of the program with oversight of designated areas. 
  • Supervises, plans, directs, and supervises the work of Youth Programs Summer Camp Staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervises, plans, coordinates, and participates in the EQUIP Training for the Georgia Division to ensure that regular/quarterly quality Youth Programs training is being offered with the intention of developing stronger Officers and stronger discipleship programs in our corps; participates in the selection of training team members; coordinates meals and room setup with each hosting Corps; selects curriculum and trains the trainers; sends certificates to individuals completing training.
  • Supervises, develops, coordinates, and supports mission programs, and projects in Corps/club; plans, develops and coordinates bridging events between Corps and persons served in mission, clubs, centers, shelters, etc.
  • Plans and administers departmental budget; reviews, monitors and approves expenditures for the Department to ensure compliance with budget constraints; evaluates budget and expenditures to determine the most cost-effective and efficient way to increase services.
  • Assists with the planning of Divisional Youth Councils; directly responsible for planning and conducting the Local Officer Breakfast; order trophies and awards to be presented at Youth Councils.
  • Manages, prepares, and maintains accurate records, lists, logs, and reports regarding the Youth Programs ensuring accuracy and completeness.  Submits monthly youth reports to Territorial Headquarters.
  • Manages and prepares all education materials, correspondence, newsletters, bulletins and/or reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Attends conferences/seminars as requested by the Divisional Youth Secretary I.e. Camp Counseling Seminar, Youth Specialties National Convention, Urbana, Roots, and local workshops as available.
  • Serves as member of the camp staff throughout the summer as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Youth Programs, Christian Ministry, or a related field, and
  • Three years progressive work experience developing a leading Youth Programs Program (Salvation Army Christian Ministry experience preferred) with applicable supervisory experience included, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to perform public speaking. Ability to travel as needed throughout the Division to accomplish the assigned job duties. Ability to lead and interact in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 10-15% of work time. Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work requires travel throughout the Division where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
