The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Warehouse Operations Manager in the Property and Procurement department at North Texas Area Command, located in Dallas, TX.

Job Summary:

Directs storage and distribution for the multiple warehouse locations within the North Texas Area Command; ensures Area Command long term storage, merchandise, donations, and supplies are sorted, distributed, or received in an efficient manner; takes precautions to secure warehouse contents against loss; evaluates inventory on hand; prepares or reviews distribution documents; supervises the work performed by employees, beneficiaries, and/or community service workers in the warehouse and assists when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities (20%)

Plans, coordinates, and directs all activities for the multiple warehouse locations within North Texas Area Command; plans, directs, recruits, and supervises all assigned staff, community service workers, and volunteers; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; conducts performance evaluations & provides salary & hiring/firing recommendations.

 

Inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness; responds to employees’ questions and assists in resolving operational and personnel problems; ensures the work is performed in compliance with established standards, policies, and procedures.

 

Supervises the warehouse staff engaged in food pantry distribution and delivery for Area Command social services centers and Corps locations.

 

Warehouse Coordination Responsibilities (40%)

Coordinates distribution of items for the food pantry program from a centralized warehouse location to participating locations in the command.

 

Monitors the arrival and distribution of all stored goods, ensuring that items reach the appropriate destination in a timely manner.

 

Monitors the supply of items available in the warehouse in order to determine the areas needing additional stock; secures appropriate approval and places orders as necessary.

 

Contacts individuals and arranges for pick-ups related to food drives, clothing drives, etc.; maintains inventory of items in storage.

 

Processes requests from various units within the Command for furnishings, equipment, and supplies that are available from warehouse inventory.

 

Arranges for needed and authorized storage for Salvation Army units/groups; locks and unlock storage areas for use by assigned individuals/groups for maintenance purposes (i.e. exterminator); updates multiple warehouse storage areas on chart.

 

Ensures that the warehouses are clean, properly maintained, and secured at all times; keeps the docks and storage area clean, organized, and in conformance with generally accepted standards for safety and fire codes.

 

Ensures that all stored goods are properly inventoried, including description, expiration dates, condition, and ownership. Records arrivals and distribution of all stored goods with an appropriate signing in and out process.

 

Ensures that all warehouse vehicles are maintained in proper working order, fueled, and ready for use.

 

Coordinates warehouse planning and usage with Angel Tree program leads.

 

Liaison Responsibilities (20%)

Serves as liaison to Corps Officers and County Directors of Adult and Family Services; provides and delivers items needed from the warehouse; alerts Corps locations and social service centers of any food donations for immediate use.

 

Acts as liaison to external agencies and third-party vendors, other Salvation Army locations, etc.; builds and maintains working relationships with them.

 

Warehouse Implementation Responsibilities (20%)

Participates in warehouse activities including sorting, packing, loading, unloading, cleaning, food pantry, and driving as needed.

 

Records and updates statistical information; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same; records community assistance into HMIS and/or additional databases.

 

Other Responsibilities:

Prepares and maintains services records on vehicles, forklifts, and other related equipment.

 

Assigns Center vehicles for use by program staff; maintains mileage logs and maintains control and accountability of gasoline credit cards which are designated for approved out-of-town trips.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of effective and efficient warehouse operations.

Ability to create and implement process improvement initiatives.

Strong decision making, organizational, multitasking and problem-solving skills.

Hands on experience with warehouse management and databases.

Strong knowledge of inventory methods and inventory control.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to lead, motivate, and evaluate the work of coworkers.

Ability to ensure the warehouse area and equipment are maintained in a neat, orderly, and secure manner.

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with donors and The Salvation Army staff.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

Ability to sort items in accordance with established categories.

Ability to determine the condition of items in accordance with established standards.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree from an accredited university or college in logistics or related field. Bachelors’ degree from an accredited university or college in logistics, warehouse management or related field.

 

and

 

Five years experience performing logistics in a warehouse environment, with three years supervisory experience,

 

Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License / CDL Preferred

Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write and communicates the English language effectively.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing and some climbing.

Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.

Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.

Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (more than 50 lbs.) frequently.

 

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
