Location: Donation Center – Augusta Area Command

Part-time

Rate of Pay: $10.00 per hour       

About this opportunity:

Receives, sorts and stores donated items in the Donation Center; determines the acceptability of donated items based on established standards; operates baler; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receives, inspects and sorts donated items according to the category and condition.
  • Selects items suitable for storage and distributes same to appropriate storage area in accordance with established procedures.
  • Tags items with dates in accordance with established procedures.
  • Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly. Assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
  • Prepares non-suitable items for discard.
  • Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing and storage.
  • Maintains inventory of items in storage; reports any known entries after hours or missing items.
  • Discourages unauthorized visitors in the warehouse area; notifies supervisor immediately of the same.
  • Maintains warehouse and loading dock area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.
  • Loads and fluffs clothes in the baler machine to secure a solid bail of clothing with wire.
  • Responds to requests from Administration for furnishing, equipment and supplies.
  • May assist in answering the telephone; provides general information and records messages.
  • Serve as lead worker to beneficiaries and community service workers and volunteers.
  • May assist in preparing receipts for items received from vendors and donors.
  • Aids the food pantry as needed.
  • Counts daily income when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • No formal education or experience required.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language; Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to physically lift and carry and /or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Moderate mobility ability. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
