Location: The Salvation Army Fuqua Boys & Girls Club

About this opportunity:

Coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of specific program(s) for youth between the ages of 6 and 18 within a designated Club.  Plans activities and facilitates programs for groups of youth in assigned Specific program areas. (STEM, STEAM, Art, Sports/Athletics. Aquatics, Education).  Other duties include writing program reports, supervising youth, and transporting youth in Club vehicles.  Builds and maintains a professional relationship with all Club members and their families in order to help advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

 

Key responsibilities:

  •  Ensures that teachers/program aides have lesson plans completed in a timely manner; assists teachers/program aides as they administer activities for school age children; ensures that activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun and safe for the children; locates supplies for teachers/program aides to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.   • Participates in the implementation of all activities and programs in the Boys and Girls Club; assists all Club employees and volunteers in maintaining the cleanliness and attractiveness of all facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Helps to organize special program events or field trips; advertises events appropriately; works in conjunction with appropriate departments for social media updates.
  • Implements educational, spiritual, and character- building programming within the structure of the programs set forth by director; provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
  • Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same; maintains accountability and inventory of all recreational equipment; informs the BGC Branch Manager or Program Coordinator II of any supply needs so that they may be ordered.
  • Collects all statistical information for all grants, licensing, Divisional and Territorial in a timely manner as required by the Corps Officers and BGC Branch Manager/Director; prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  • Maintains the program materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for materials necessary for programs.
  • Reports all accidents to the BGC Branch Manager/Director in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.
  • Transports patrons and children to and from the Club; observes good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of patrons and The Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Plans and coordinates all activities and programs including the youth mentorship, youth tutoring, and summer day camp programs; assists the BGC Branch Manager or Program Coordinator II in meeting the goals of the Club. (Job Performance)
  • Organizes and supervises field trips; including but not limited to setting up, gathering all supplies for, arranging payment, scheduling staff within ratio, getting directions & communicating them to staff and making sure events are scheduled accordingly.
  • Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity. (Problem Solving)
  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.
  • Coordinates money paid by program participants with the Receptionist; maintains accurate and complete records of payments.
  • Prepares and serves children snacks and meals (when appropriate).
  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Torch Club, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.

 

What we are looking for in you:

  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  •  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services
  • Two years’ progressively responsible experience in program management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club or Three years’ experience working in a similar youth serving organization,
  • Any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • First Aid and C.P.R. Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • BGCA Learning Coach Certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and follow all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed standing and walking and relieved by periods of sitting to perform other duties. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
