About this opportunity:

Plan, develop, and manage the daily activities of the gymnasium and athletic fields to include adult and teen intramural sports teams and children’s sports teams, ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is a top priority in all areas and activities.  Perform any necessary administrative duties associated with these areas.  Ensure that the program operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures.  Maintains equipment associated with the gymnasium and athletic fields.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare a budget draft for fitness activity, gym activity, athletic fields, and intramural sports programs.
  • Work closely with the Program Director and community program partners in developing programs for the Kroc Center based upon ongoing needs assessment and business plan. 
  • Work with program staff and community partners to develop the gym, athletic field and intramural sports programs that will be offered in our program guide.  Work in a cooperation with other directors to coordinate essential space planning
  • Develop programming and monitor all programs relevant to the gymnasium (when fitness classes are held) and as it relates to fitness, aquatics (as it relates to group fitness), fitness corridor, and group fitness rooms (excluding the times space is used for dance classes)
  • Develop education program offerings around nutrition, health, and fitness.
  • Serve as a liaison between the gym, athletic, and fitness programs of the Kroc Center and the Corps Congregational life, encouraging bridge building between daily Kroc Center activity and Corps life.
  • Deliberately incorporate athletic and fitness programs into the Kroc Center and intramural sports schedule which unites believers and non-believers with the direct goal of spreading the Christian message through group interactions.
  • Develop systems that safeguard any and all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the gymnasium, and athletic fields.
  • Plan, develop, and manage the daily activities of the gymnasium and athletic fields to include adult and teen intramural sports teams and children’s sports teams, ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is a top priority in all areas and activities.
  • Work with the Program Director in evaluating the health and fitness programs offered at the Kroc Center.
  • Works one on one with the program staff and the community partners to develop the fitness programs that will be offered in the program guide; works in a cooperative manner with the other directors discussing the availability of the athletic areas and services to the other programs.
  • Create and maintain an office system that will allow for accurate record keeping of program staff, volunteers, and participants.
  • Will attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings when directed by the Program Director
  • Ability to initiate code blue emergency call or respond to an emergency situation if one arises.
  • Directly responsible for supervision and scheduling of the Gym Attendants and Fitness Staff.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate as needed, the staff and contract workers who will provide the classes and training offered in the gymnasium and athletic fields
  • Train and/or supervise as is appropriate the instructors, volunteers, and participants ensuring that safety standards are being maintained
  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Review, Career Development, Succession Planning, and Salary) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures.
  • Establish working objectives and policies for volunteers that will assist in fitness programs, work with volunteer coordinator on the scheduling and specific duties for volunteers
  • Supervise athletic staff to maintain bulletin boards, which reflect appropriate information and are kept current with upcoming activities offered in this venue.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the gym and athletic fields are maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis.
  • Establish and maintain guidelines related to the gym with regard to the use of food and beverages in assigned areas.
  • Create and maintain tracking systems that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including areas statistical reports, volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of the gymnasium/athletic field usage both by private and on-site programs.
  • See that Worker’s Compensation, staff injuries, and liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure as outline in the HR Manual.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.

What we are looking for in you:

  • A bachelor’s degree in physical fitness, health and fitness, exercise and fitness or other equivalent degree and three years’ experience, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis. Must be able to push, pull & move heavy weight equipment on an infrequent basis with appropriate tools and safety equipment. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army. Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and stand, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position. Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs. Field programs will involve working outside in an environment where some job functions will involve dealing with conditions associated with changes in weather, dust, dirt, and the like.
