Location:  MS Gulf Coast – Gulfport, MS       

About this opportunity:

Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standardsKey responsibilities:

 

  • Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.

 

  • Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.

 

  • Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.

 

  • Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

 

  • Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.

 

  • Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.

 

  • Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.

 

  • Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.

 

  • Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.

What we are looking for in you:

  • No formal education required.
  • Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR

 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills or abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Manual dexterity.  Ability to sit, walk, and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position.  Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.  Must be self-directed with ability to tolerate frequent interruptions.

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
