The Salvation Army,, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Grants & Public Relations Coordinator for the Office, located in McAllen, Texas.

Job Summary:Plans, directs, monitors and evaluates all public relations functions for the Corps to ensure that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities; serves as liaison to all media ensuring the desired message is

communicated; photographs and writes articles covering Salvation Army events; finds, develops, writes, submits, and administrates local foundation, corporate, state, and federal grants; administers existing grants and ensures compliance with
contract restrictions; serves as liaison to funding sources.

 

Essential Functions: Researches, locates, studies, prioritizes, and contacts existing and new funding sources in order to apply for grant funds. Assists the supervisor in the creation of a budget for public relations efforts including print, promotions, and other

public relations related activities; administers and monitors the public relations budget. Finds, develops, writes, submits, and administrates local foundation, corporate, state, and federal grants. Administers existing grants and ensures compliance with
contract restrictions; serves as liaison to funding sources.
Prepares grant applications and compiles required paperwork to maximize opportunities for financial support for The Salvation Army programs, explores, develops and implements
partnerships and collaborative consortiums/programs/projects with other groups and organizations; develops and writes contractual/collaborative agreements with other organizations. Explores and develops methods of strengthening and
enhancing The Salvation Army’s presence and mission.
Provides financial and program oversight of all grant/contractual agreements.

 

Plans and implements public relations programs for The Salvation Army McAllen / Hidalgo County; coordinates internal and external public relations activities for Corps. Writes various articles and press

releases in order to communicate and promote the service and progress of The Salvation Army in the community; provides articles to magazines, internet, Southern Spirit, War Cry, newsletters, billboards,
Speakers Bureau, Public Service Announcements for television and radio as well as drop in ads for all printed publications.
Designs, develops, and prepares brochures, annual reports, and a quarterly newsletter
designed to keep donors, media, and those requesting
information of The Salvation Army up-to-date on the activities of The Salvation Army in the local area; works with advertising agencies to secure assistance

for the preparing the same. Supervises and participates in the creation, preparation and/or upgrading of promotional materials to include annual reports, brochures, newsletters, and programs; reviews current publicity

tracking methods and improves as necessary. Produces and submits news and press releases and media packets for television, radio stations, and all area newspapers in order to promote special Salvation Army
events, meetings, and
projects to the local media; coordinates media activities with contacts for consistency in message. Directs and monitors the maintenance of public relations records and files; organizes and
maintains computer files and
hard files on projects, promotions, special events, publications, vendors and contracts.

Attends Salvation Army events and special meetings in order to take photographs and writes articles for publication in The Salvation Army periodicals and newsletters. Creates and updates the crisis

management plan; works with the Human Resource Administrator to ensure each staff member is aware of what to do in crisis and to whom to direct information; positions The Salvation Army as a leader in disaster services; keeps Army presence in front of media and general public during times of disaster through news releases, in-kind donation drives, billboards, celebrity endorsements and various visibility opportunities.

Prepares and sends public relations information about Salvation Army programs, etc. to the general public; assists in maintaining up-to-date information on The Salvation Army web site home page.

Receives and responds to telephone calls related to public relations matters; responds to or delegates response to all public relations correspondence including thank you letters and phone calls, etc.

Contacts the media to create awareness of special interest or events of The Salvation Army; serves as a Salvation Army representative or spokesperson as directed; represents The Salvation Army in a

professional and positive manner.

Serves as primary staff contact for the Public Relations Committee of the Advisory Board; assists in the development and implementation of public relations and marketing plans, coordinating at appropriate level with
committee members; assists in developing advisory board
relations and leadership recruitment; advises management on community relations projects and activities.

Serves as primary spokesperson with media regarding all Army activities in the county if Commanding Officer or appropriate staff person is not available; directs media to appropriate staff

person as needed; performs public speaking and talk show appearances to increase The Salvation Army’s visibility of services; provides accurate information to media, other Army centers and administration.

Publishes content, photos, and graphic elements to Web site; edits content to keep site up-to-date; creates and publishes new material and news features to keep site fresh and dynamic.

Posts daily content to Social Media sites; uploads visual displays to social media websites; answers questions the field may have regarding social media; ensures branding for all locations meets .
nationally-approved standards; links all social media websites to Corps websites.

 

Other Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned. Materials and Equipment: Personal Computer; General Office; Equipment; Camera and Video Equipment. Applicable PR Software

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same. Knowledge of the principles and practices of grant administration and grant writing skills.

Ability to read and understand complex application documents. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to maintain security of confidential records and information. Knowledge of Excel and MS Office software applications.

Must have strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure compliance with complex reporting and agreement specifics. Ability to plan, organize

and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. required with one to two years of college courses in public relations, business administration,

public administration or related field, and One year of applicable public relations and/or development work experience or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required

knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Drivers License. Physical Requirements: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.Ability to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conduct all communications and job duties
with the highest level of
professionalism. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in meetings at Corps/Social Service Centers, community meetings, conferences, etc. Duties are usually performed
seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the

like, but not limited to the office environment.
