Summary

The Distribution Mechanic I is responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment, piping systems, valves, and machinery at our power plant located in Baltimore, Maryland. This is a full-time hourly position and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The compensation range for this position is $36.00-42.00 per hour plus a 10% bonus target.

Responsibilities 

•    Maintain safe working conditions in accordance with established Company policies
•    Identify, report and/or correct unsafe work environments
•    Assures compliance with all applicable environmental regulations
•    Install, repair, replace, and trouble shoot piping systems, valves, traps, pumps 
•    Must be able to fabricate piping from layouts blueprints, and mechanical drawings
•    Interpret welding specifications, standards and procedures and work unsupervised to complete assignments
•    Perform welding tasks and various mechanical duties which may include repairs on steam equipment
•    Operate all hand/power tools in a competent manner
•    Repair and install utility production and distribution systems such as: chillers, boilers, hot water/steam/chilled water distribution and their sub-systems
•    Participate in mandatory training sessions related to Utility systems
•    Act as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of personnel
•    Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled
•    Respond to emergency situations immediately and work quickly to correct the problem(s)
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
•    Perform other duties as assigned by Distribution Manager
•    Must further welding skills, as the need for such welding specifications is required by the department
•    Takes rotating, on-call (beeper) on weekends, back shifts, and holidays
•    Must be able to work overtime as required


Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications:
•    HS Diploma or GED 
•    5-10 years of experience in an industrial maintenance setting 
•    3-5 years of pipefitting experience 
•    2-4 high pressure steam experience 
•    Ability to work with minimum supervision 
•    Ability to perform basic computer operations and use email
•    Ability to read and follow blueprints, operation, and maintenance manuals
•    Demonstrated proficiency as a Mechanic 2 
•    Ability to create field sketches of piping systems

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Valid Md 1st or 2nd Grade Stationary Engineers License 
•    6G welding Certification
•    Plate weld certification 
•    Rigging certification 


Physical Requirements 

•    Ability to lift and maneuver up to and including 50 pounds
•    Ability to work in confined spaces 
•    Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to 100 feet
•    Must complete pre-employment screenings including a company physical exam and respirator fit test in addition to drug testing
•    Must be able to walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
•    Ability to tolerate heat
•    Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurable by Company’s vehicle insurance carrier
