Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Childcare & Recreation Manager

 

The Childcare & Recreation Manager overseas the childcare and recreation services.  Supervision of Assistant Teachers and Recreation Assistants, and liaison with funder and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires Bachelor’s degree and four years work experience with a similar population of which two years were in a supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. 

 

Supervisory Role:

This position does have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Childcare & Recreation Manager Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Manage instructional environment in a manner that fosters learning and growth.
  2. Supervise classroom aides.
  3. Direct classroom activities on a daily basis. Prepare daily activity schedule and coordinate with other disciplines.
  4. Evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis, maintaining necessary records.
  5. Write annual goals, behavioral objectives, and intervention strategies for students.
  6. Assess developmental functioning and learning skills of students in all areas, at regularly planned intervals.
  7. Consult and interface with colleagues on team on all phases of student program.
  8. Make parent contacts, provide for transition of instruction to home, and assure parent partnership, make home visits, and invite parents for school visits.
  9. Maintain daily lesson plan book which displays instruction in all content areas.
