Job Purpose

The Project Engineer is primarily responsible for applying sound engineering principles, strong analytical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication to the design, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and management of various safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects across different platforms. This position reports to the Program Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be committed to modeling the organization’s mission and values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Work in a team environment to provide technical direction and assistance to partner organizations (government and community), other engineers, technicians, and volunteers.
  • Develop engineering designs for water and sanitation projects.
  • Conduct field inspections and site assessments.
  • Create project-specific engineering calculations, construction drawings, construction specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Managing Multiple Projects Simultaneously

  • Maintain good communication with all organizational staff involved in Water Mission Honduras projects.
  • Assist the program to ensure that projects are executed according to the agreed scope of work, schedule, and budget.
  • Act as a liaison between the designs led by Honduras and the review process led by the headquarters in Charleston, USA.
  • Work in cross-cultural settings, overcoming stereotypes and, preferably, language barriers.
  • Prepare project assessments, designs, budgets, implementation, and management across various organizational platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn how to install and operate WASH-related equipment.
  • Assist in researching, testing, and designing new technologies and concepts.
  • Complete projects in accordance with Water Mission’s approved quality and engineering standards.
  • Complete projects in compliance with the organization’s reporting procedures and documentation protocols.
  • Install and operate WASH-related equipment.
  • Ensure that work is completed within the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in disaster response activities as necessary at headquarters, field offices, or unknown remote locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor.
  • Drive to communities as needed.
  • Maintain a servant leadership model towards colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public, in line with the organization’s mission and core values.
  • Participate in or lead internal activities aligned with the organization’s mission and core values.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 2-5 years of experience in engineering or related fields.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering programs such as EPANET, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp Pro, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in English, preferably.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle or motorcycle.
  • Vehicle or motorcycle driver’s license.
  • Preferred experience in mechanized pumping and solarization of pumping equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability with solid engineering principles and achieving a level of understanding required by the projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn to install and operate WASH-related equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Must demonstrate legal and unrestricted authorization to work in Honduras.
