Job Purpose

Mobilize communities for safe water projects, form safe water committees, train and empower communities to manage and sustain the project fully, work with community leaders to improve sanitation and hygiene, and monitor and provide accurate quality reports according to organizational standards as needed.

A successful Community Development Technician manages the following areas:

Leadership

  • Exhibit a model of servant leadership in the workplace.
  • Promote and fulfill the Mission and Vision of Water Missions through words, actions, and initiatives.
  • Work on community strengthening.
  • Collaborate closely with Water Mission officials to support program planning.

Community Development Program Strategy and Implementation

  • Responsible for supporting the implementation of program activities and achieving objectives at the community level.
  • Maintain good communication with the communities and target populations.
  • Maintain good working relationships with local partners, ensuring the target population actively participates during project execution.
  • Deliver educational talks based on Water Missions guidelines.
  • Establish contact with development agents and Potable Water and Sanitation Management Boards (JAAPS).
  • Provide citizen services and strengthen the participatory social structure.

Organizational Support

  • Provide technical assistance and support to participants/beneficiaries as needed.
  • Work within communities to ensure project implementation and management.

Specific Job Functions

  • Assist the Community Development Coordinator in implementing the Community Development program in Water Missions beneficiaries.
  • Achieve the WASH methodology objectives of Water Missions projects.
  • Perform technical and financial monitoring of JAAPS.
  • Encourage community participation and leadership in good educational practices.
  • Assist in organizing, filing, and arranging documents, brochures, and educational program presentations as requested by the immediate supervisor.
  • Write and present reports to the immediate supervisor when requested.
  • Give talks and workshops on educational topics related to our components.
  • Work as a team with other technicians across all components.
  • Align with the policies, processes, and assignments issued by the organization.
  • Support the legalization of JAAPS.
  • Train Safe Water Committees on sustainability under Water Missions guidelines and the immediate supervisor's direction.
  • Ensure a consistent and transparent monitoring system that provides reliable analysis of the WASH methodology, in coordination with the Community Development Coordinator.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor or Water Missions management.
  • Maintain a servant leadership model towards colleagues, partners, communities we serve, and the public, in line with the organization's mission and core values.
  • Participate in or lead internal activities aligned with the mission and core values of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Alignment with the International Water Missions Statement of Faith and the organization’s core values.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in similar institutions and roles.
  • High school diploma, Technical Bachelor's in Community Health, or pursuing a degree in pedagogy, psychology, or related fields.
  • Willingness to travel within the country.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge.
  • Ability to operate a motorcycle or vehicle.
  • Valid vehicle or motorcycle driver's license.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with initiative.
  • Desire to stay updated and learn over time, maintaining a desire to collaborate with our Mission and Vision continually.
  • Openness to professional growth and skill development to improve interpersonal relations, commitment to our Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct, among others.
  • Problem-solving (knowing when and how to seek help and advice).
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and stewardship to ensure investors in Water Missions Honduras feel secure and confident that their capabilities are being well utilized.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly fluid environment that may be very unstructured during emergencies.
  • Understanding and ability to work with the Project Engineer and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational objectives, program strategies, projects, and activities.
  • Research, learn, and stay updated in the fields of water, sanitation, hygiene, international development, and missions.
  • Maintain impeccable integrity in handling funds responsibly and transparently.
  • Maintain a servant leadership model to fellow colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public, aligned with the mission and core values of the organization.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with all staff, both written and verbal, including the ability to articulate ideas and feedback constructively.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ending the global water crisis.
  • Excellent relationship and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Must demonstrate legal and unrestricted authorization to work in Honduras.
