Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded construction company, is seeking qualified candidates for a Preconstruction Services Manager position. This position is located in our Corporate office in Sanford, FL.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Proficient at pricing all trades and preparing estimates under Lump Sum, Construction Management and Design Build projects.
- Experience in developing bid strategies.
- Supervise junior estimators assigned to the project.
- Experience in presenting to owners and architects.
- Must be proficient in performing take-off utilizing Plan Swift and similar estimating software
- Overall responsibility for solicitation and review of proposals from subcontractors and vendors for all projects bid.
- Organize and conduct pre-bid subcontractor meetings and walkthroughs.
- Review and selection of subcontractor/vendor proposals for incorporation into bid proposals. Visit jobsites to review construction methods and existing conditions, determining bid approach and philosophy to heighten competitiveness of proposals.
- Use unit cost method to develop estimates utilizing Excel format
- Work as a team under strict deadlines and deliver real time information used to recommend subcontractors during bid day.
- Develop budgets, estimates and proposals from various levels of drawing; Schematic Design, SD or 30%; Design Development, DD or 60%, Construction Level, CD or 90%.
- Develop Constructability and Value Management Strategies as required to help maintain project budgets and goals.
- Provide liaison services with architects, engineers, design consultants, subcontractors, Owner’s representatives, and WSI Team members to resolve issues related to the preconstruction efforts.
- Lead Project Hand-off Meeting with Operations to ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations.
Preferences/Qualifications:
- 7 – 15 years estimating experience
- Education 4-year degree in Construction
- Previous experience with Hard Bid, Construction Management and Design Build projects
- Strong communication and organizational skills Computer proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and knowledge of PlanSwift preferred.
- Valid Driver License and ability to commute to job sites.
