About the Role:

The Principal Engineer in Security and SD-WAN Engineering will analyze requirements to meet the demand and performance of products, systems, and/or data. The role involves performing engineering design evaluations, including cost-effective utilization of materials. Responsibilities include the design, development, testing, and implementation of all components, equipment, and software within the functional area of the organization. The incumbent will provide technical leadership and direction in their area of expertise for engineering staff and Windstream internal teams by enhancing operations and maintaining the reliability of systems. This role also involves acting as the technical consultant within and outside the department, promoting positive change in the company’s business strategy through achieving specific objectives and technological innovation. The role requires self-motivation to address technical escalations from customer-facing teams and may include some on-call duties.

What You’ll Do:

    • Act as an escalation point for complex issues related to Security, SD-WAN, MPLS, and their supporting components

    • Assist in product roll-out, upgrades, and maintenance of Security, SD-WAN, and MPLS environments

    • Discuss and develop customer designs that meet Windstream standards or architectural guidelines

    • Document resolution and conduct appropriate root cause analysis post-trouble resolution

    •  Work with Windstream internal teams to audit and optimize customer network solutions to ensure maximum service uptime, survivability, and sustainability

    •  Identify and handle upstream communication regarding network service trends, escalation trends, emergent technology, and network vulnerabilities from both a provider backbone and customer solution perspective

    • Manage small-scale projects and tasks while working closely with engineering teams or other internal teams as needed

    • Develop and maintain expert-level technical and marketing knowledge for Windstream security, SD-WAN, and MPLS product set

Do You Have?  

    • Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM and SR-IOV

• Advanced expertise in network engineering, specifically with MPLS on Juniper and Nokia routers

    • Proficiency in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting MPLS networks

Even Better:

    • Strong technical background including industry-relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA- Cloud, CCP, CCC)

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technology track or equivalent experience of no less than five years in a senior network engineering role

    • Proven track record of resolving complex issues and exhibiting a genuine enthusiasm for working with network equipment

    • Experience working in a service provider environment and familiarity with key concepts including MPLS, VoIP architecture, and SD-WAN from a service provider 

      standpoint

    • Ability to work with Python at a moderate level for scripting and automation tasks

Minimum Requirements:

College degree in Engineering or a related field and 3-5 years professional level experience with 0-1 year supervisory experience; or 7+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience with 0-1 year supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.

The starting compensation range for this position is $105,600 - $141,300.
