Wistar’s dynamic environment supports the advancement of discoveries that will change the future of human health.

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Bioinformatics Analyst to join the Bioinformatics Shared Resource (Core) of our NCI-designated Cancer Center. The Bioinformatics Core provides Wistar investigators with expertise in analyses and computational modeling for the biomedical research data and data management.

The successful candidate will apply and develop bioinformatics approaches for analysis of data from high throughput experiments conducted by Wistar scientists, including but not limited to bulk and single cell next generation sequencing and other various types of genomics and proteomics data.

The ideal candidate for this role has a Masters degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational sciences or related fields. Some biological course work is a plus.

Minimum of one-year prior experience in Bioinformatics data analysis of high throughput data (next generation sequencing, microarrays, proteomics).

Expected knowledge and skills:

  • working proficiency in Unix/Linux operating system
  • knowledge of R, and/or Python scripting language
  • basic proficiency in statistical testing
  • understanding of fundamental biological principles
  • strong problem solving and communication skills required
  • familiarity with repositories of genomic data sets and analysis tools, such as TCGA, ICGC, COSMIC, ENCODE, ExAc, UCSC Genome Browser

The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus. Wistar provides resources to its faculty and staff that enable them to conduct cutting edge collaborative research and provides for outstanding intellectual environments and state-of-the-art facilities.
