POSITION SUMMARY:

The YMCA operates before and after preschool programs at locations in Kenmore and Depew. The program assistant facilitates the lesson plan and provides a safe environment for children. 

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

The program assistant will be scheduled to work about 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday.  Morning and afternoon shifts are available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitates the daily/weekly lesson plan to children in a creative and stimulating environment.
  2. Provides direct supervision and leadership to the assigned group of children.
  3. Follows department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas. Ensures PPE compliance.
  4. Provides a safe environment for all activities. Enforces safety rules and reports/treats any injuries.
  5. Develops and maintains positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and school administration.
  6. Maintains all required certifications. Attends and participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
  7. Carries out other tasks as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 16 years old. Must have valid NYS Working papers if under 18 years of age.
  2. Must have experience working with elementary school age children.
  3. Knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of group work, child development, values, education, and group activities are preferred.
  4. Successfully completes the Office of Child and Family Services comprehensive background clearance requirements.
