We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Food Service Worker. This position involves a variety of tasks, including food preparation, cleaning, shopping, delivery, and more. By ensuring the smooth operation of our food service program, you'll play a vital role in supporting CAPSLO's mission and helping individuals and families in need.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Six months experience working in commercial or institutional food service.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safe food handling procedures.
  • For health and sanitation reasons, must have good grooming and personal cleanliness.
  • Ability to engage in moderate physical activity requiring lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, walking and standing.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work with people of multi-cultural, low-income backgrounds.
  • Ability to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.
  • Ability understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals and performance measures of the agency.
  • Valid California Driver's License and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout will be required.

As a Food Service Worker:

  • You will be responsible for cleaning before and after meal services.
  • You will keep equipment, appliances, work surfaces and area clean and sanitized.
  • You will wash dishes, pots, and pans.
  • You will sweep, mop, and load/unload dishwasher.
  • You will set up meal services for classes.
  • You will transport food transport containers into delivery vehicle and unload empty containers.
  • You will deliver meals from central kitchen using CAPSLO vehicle.
  • You will assist with pre-preparation of food requiring washing, peeling and cutting of fruits and vegetables, mixes and stirs prepared foods.
  • You will use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices, and act in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children.
  • You will assists with loading and unloading of grocery items.  May assist in purchasing groceries.
  • You will assist with pre-preparation of food that requires washing, peeling and cutting of fruits and vegetables; mixes and stirs prepared foods.
  • You will attend food program workshops and participate in career development activities.
  • You will maintain cell phone that is assigned to the food transport vehicle. 
  • You will reports any mechanical maintenance or repair of the food transport vehicle to the Transportation and Safety Coordinator.
  • You will maintain food service vehicle: washes exterior weekly; cleans interior for food spillage; and removes trash.
  • You will be dedicated to the goals and objectives of CAPSLO.
  • You will perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. 
  • Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
  • Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray. 
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment. 
  • Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work. 
  • Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements. 
  • Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.
