As a Senior Accountant, you will be able to hone your expertise and knowledge in statutory accounting, while paving the path for modernizing our financial reporting. You will have the opportunity to influence the departments short and long-term strategic goals. In this role, you will be expected to provide meaningful narrative alongside the data to better understand and meet the wants and needs of our business partners.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Investigate unusual or unexpected data and provide meaningful narrative for report recipients
  • Maintain adequate financial controls for all accounting responsibilities
  • Complete reviews and approvals of accounting processes and procedures including reports and profitability measures
  • Provide detailed analyses and explanation of transactions
  • Proper administration of software systems
  • Anticipate the questions of report recipients and provide meaningful narrative for end users
  • Understand the wants and needs of our internal customers and develop reports or tools to better meet their needs
  • Continual monitoring of current reporting and analysis tools, recommending changes that will provide more meaningful data
  • Ensure compliance with statutory accounting guidelines (SSAP's) and state regulatory agencies
  • Employ professional skepticism, discernment and an inquisitive mindset related to current accounting processes
  • Serve as a liaison between accounting/finance and business partners, recognizing and explaining complex accounting and reporting matters. 
  • Lead the continuous improvement initiatives for the department and collaborate cross-functionally on corporate initiatives
  • Lead other special projects including assistance with monthly, quarterly and year-end close procedures, system implementations, and/or documentation and process improvement efforts
  • Develop recommendations and solutions for complex problems
  • Research and monitor statutory and regulatory changes, recommending updates to processes and procedures as necessary
  • Timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly and annual technical accounting responsibilities
  • Develop strong and meaningful relationships within the Corporate Accounting team, across the organization, and with our corporate partners
  • Participate in and lead project work, including projects and project teams of complex nature representing the Corporate Accounting function in corporate initiatives
  • Own and lead the development of documentation of the theories and reasoning for current processes
  • Foster a team mentality by supporting and mentoring others within the Corporate Accounting department
  • Focus on proactive customer service to both internal and external customers

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field and 2 years of experience in accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field and 6 years of experience in accounting
  • Or 6 years of experience in Accounting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong group presentation, and ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Ability to identify and capitalize on continuous improvement ideas
  • Possesses multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Ability to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes

Preferred

  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access and analytics software (i.e. Power BI)
