As the Director of Data Engineering, you will help drive strategy around the integration, aggregation, and warehousing of the company’s data making it available for consumption through business intelligence and data analytics/science solutions. You will partner and collaborate with product owners, data governance, data analytics, and other functional leaders to deliver innovate data solutions.
How You'll Make an Impact
Management & Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers to ensure their professional growth and development
- Cultivate a team culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, learning, and a commitment to success
- Manage multiple data engineering initiatives, ensuring timely delivery at an appropriate cost.
- Ownership of the data engineering budget; develops strategies to effectively manage expense and maximize our returns on investments.
- Effectively develops and manages vendor relationships to achieve optimal outcomes
- Design, deploy, and report out on metrics that effectively measure the rate to build & deliver desired changes, accessibility of the data, data quality, and cost to serve to drive continuous improvement of the data engineering team.
- Develop staffing models and lead a team of professionals that execute on your strategy for data engineering
Data Engineering
- Own the vision & strategy of our enterprise data platform, enabling analytics, data science, and system integration in alignment with corporate strategy and goals.
- Engage with stakeholders to understand data needs, acting as a thought leader and liaison.
- Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear and actionable insights.
- Promote a data-driven culture within the organization by advocating for the use of data in decision-making processes
- Ownership of the tech stack used for our data platform, including the infrastructure currently running in Azure
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable and efficient data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across the data platform
- Ensures the proper tools & technology are in place to enable consumers of the data platform
- Develop and deploy strategies for building high velocity, high performance, data engineering teams
- Champions modern data engineering practices and coaches the team to drive continuous improvement
- Keep current with industry trends and emerging technology
- Provide technical guidance and support to the data engineering team on complex data engineering challenges
What You'll Bring
- Master’s degree in Computer Science and 6 years of related experience including 2 years management experience
- Or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 8 years related experience including 2 years management experience
- Or 10 years related experience including 2 years of management experience
- Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution
- Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to effectively interact with key stakeholders and senior management throughout the organization
- Experience analyzing data to identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies
- Expertise in modern data engineering practices and techniques
- Strong experience leading data driven discussions & designing scalable data platforms for analytics
- Experience with data security and compliance best practices
- Advanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies
- Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills
- Good understanding of Central Insurance’s policies and processes
Preferred
- Extensive experience in Data Engineering
- Expertise in data architecture
- Expertise in SQL or similar languages
