Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Manager, Production Crewing to lead and manage the crewing of approximately 400 sports & entertainment productions annually. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all productions are fully staffed with the necessary personnel ahead of each sporting season, coordinating both freelance and internal crew members. Once the production crew is set for the season, responsibilities will shift to managing ongoing tasks such as organizing and creating training programs, providing feedback, managing a roster of freelancers and ensuring continuous development for the crew.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in production management, resource coordination, and developing effective training programs. The role requires a balance between people management and logistical planning, with cross-collaboration to senior staff, Production Managers, Broadcast Engineers and more.


The role will involve occasionally to actively participate in productions as a Production Manager to gain firsthand insight into the fieldwork and understand the responsibilities and challenges faced by crew members. This experience will enhance coordination with other teams and lead to more effective communication and management of production operations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Crewing and Staffing Coordination:
  • Lead the crewing process for up to 400 productions annually, ensuring all sports productions are fully staffed ahead of each season.
  • Manage a roster of both freelance and internal crew members, ensuring the right people are matched with the right productions.
  • Ensure proper scheduling and resource allocation to maintain smooth production flow throughout the season.
  • Travel Management & Coordination: Arrange and book travel for technical personnel and production staff through internal travel services, and provide itineraries to all involved parties
  • Training and Development:
  • Once the season is crewed, work with develop and implement comprehensive training programs to ensure all crew members meet production standards.
  • Organize and manage training sessions and workshops, both pre-season and during the season as needed.
  • Provide direct feedback to crew members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality performance.
  • Ongoing Season Management:
  • Manage ongoing crew-related tasks throughout the season, including performance monitoring, scheduling adjustments, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with senior company staff and production leadership to ensure high standards are maintained across all productions.
  • Freelance Relationship Management:
  • Cultivate long-term relationships with freelancers, ensuring sustained commitment and engagement throughout the season.
  • Act as the point of contact for freelancers regarding any scheduling, training, or operational concerns.

  • Administrative and Reporting:
  • Collect feedback and track performance of crew to future planning and training.
  • Report regularly to senior management on crew readiness, training progress, and any challenges faced.
  • Coordinate with external and internal payroll service or companies relating to crewing


Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5+ years of experience in broadcast production or crew management, particularly within the sports or live event industries.
  • Proficient in production scheduling and resource management tools.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale productions and coordinating diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines, especially in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs for production teams.

 

The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $105,000 to $140,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
