*This role is a floater position, requiring movement between different classrooms and age groups throughout the school day.

Are you passionate about shaping young minds and creating a nurturing environment for children and their families? We are looking for dedicated individual to join our Early Childhood Education team as Instructional Assistant. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the growth and development of children while supporting our mission to provide high-quality education and care

We would love to hear from someone who:

  • Has completed 6 Semester units ECE/CD, with a grade C or better or credit.
  • Has Experience working with children with a diversity of special needs
  • HS/EHS/MSHS/State-Braided Instructional Assistants must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Has a child development associate (CDA) credential or the California equivalent of an Associate Teacher Permit (12 ECE semester units including core courses; and for EHS and infant/toddler classrooms must also have 6 infant/toddler units); OR
    • Is enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years; OR
    • Has an associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area) or is enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.

As an Instructional Assistant You Will:

  • Assist in the safe supervision of children engaged in learning and play activities by:
    • Paying close attention to the safety of the children at all times
    • Maintaining firm, but gracious limit setting.
  • Assist the Center Supervisor, Teacher(s), and Associate Teacher(s) in planning developmentally appropriate activities for all children by:
    • Collecting supplementary books, paper, art supplies and other materials for instructional use.
    • Providing input into lesson plan development.
    • Participating in learning and small group activities.
    • Encouraging language development conversation with children (including the child’s first language, if other than English).
    • Encouraging children to be involved in activities with respect to their individual preferences.
  • Keep Center Supervisor, Teacher(s) and Associate Teacher(s) informed of problems and concerns related to individual children, families and/or operations of the center program.
  • Have visual supervision of all children at all times.
  • Aid children in developing cognitive, physical, one-to-one or small group skills.
  • Aid children in developing self-help skills; toileting, feeding, dressing, napping, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information of program families.
  • Maintain health and safety in the classroom as reflected in health and safety policies. Responsible for maintaining and tracking daily safety checklist and sanitation log.
  • Implement each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)/Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. 
  • Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
  • Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray. 
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment. 
  • Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work. 
  • Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements. 
  • Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.
