Henderson Engineers is seeking a Business Development Director to join their team in Dallas, TX. The Business Development Director creates and drives business development strategies for specific business lines within Henderson Engineers, aligning the needs, strategies and goals of the practices and clients. The Director Business Development promotes business unit growth by converting potential leads to new clients, facilitating responses to RFP/RFQs, tracking win/loss and profitability with clients, and creating long-term client retention plans. They play a key role in measuring, improving and prioritizing win rate and profitability with clients and vertical markets and work cooperatively with other leadership teams to define and mobilize company-wide strategies.

  • 10 years of experience developing business and relationships within architecture, engineering and construction industries preferred.
  • Membership within relevant industry professional organizations preferred.
  • Effective sales and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of the construction and engineering industries.
  • Knowledge of industry specific certifications and programs (LEED).
  • Understanding of the various markets and sectors that the organization services.
  • Deep understanding of various pricing and project delivery models with the construction industry.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to achieve measurable sales results.
  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications for the Role are:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in business, construction or engineering preferred.
    • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated success in sales and marketing required.

 

Skills & Duties you will be Responsible for in this role: 

Business Development & Client Experience:

  • Oversees the development of new business opportunities and relationships for the assigned business unit.
  • Attends client meetings with new and existing clients.
  • Attracts and retains new and existing business clients to generate new business for the organization.
  • Assists others in conducting client touchpoint meetings and continually improving client satisfaction ratings.
  • Serves as the first-line customer contact for assigned business unit.
  • Routinely monitors website to ensure current content and effective marketing to potential new clients.
  • Works with marketing teams to evaluate website, social media traffic and target content to develop new opportunities.
  • Routinely reviews and updates marketing materials, project, and staff bios to keep current and relevant.
  • Attends conferences and tradeshows.
  • Keeps current on industry trends and leverages them to create business development strategies.

Sales Strategy Development and Execution:

  • Participates in the development of departmental strategic plans and budget.
  • Provides input on project capture plans to develop win strategies.
  • Evaluates requests for proposal/qualifications.
  • Participates in go/no-go decision-making activities.
  • Generates client and/or project leads.
  • Identifies decision makers for each target.
  • Creates client action plans for each prospective client.
  • Oversees the progress of activities related to RFP/RFQ responses, including engagement with cross-functional partners.
  • Utilizes the internal CRM to document and maintain sales activities and conduct client research to help guide action plans.
  • Maintains forecasted revenue by project pipeline.
  • Prepares reports of proposed pipeline for organization leadership.
  • Collaborates with marketing to create comprehensive sales documents for specific markets and individual offerings.

Internal Sales Support: 

  • Leads account management personnel within assigned business unit in client and project pursuits, overseeing related activities.
  • Guides pursuit team to align with client action, project capture, or organizational strategic plans.
  • Conducts meetings to address opportunities and provide business development support.
  • Participates in additional business development training and mentoring.
