 BACK OF HOUSE LEAD | JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

SUMMARY 

At Magnolia, the Back of House Lead is responsible for executing the daily flow of food from preparation to completion. This position is responsible for assisting with coaching, training, and providing guidance to team members. This position works from Magnolia Table in Waco, Texas. It reports to the Assistant Kitchen Manager and has supervisory responsibilities. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESShape 

  • Uphold Magnolia’s manifesto and values
  • Communicate with management when there is potential for shortage and/or overage of a specific product 
  • Assist in directing and organizing the kitchen during business hours
  • Assist in opening and closing the restaurant with an emphasis on sanitation and food quality control
  • Possess a thorough, working understanding of all recipes, the restaurant standards, and the visual standards for each product and ability to train fellow teammates
  • Prepare food for service
  • Communicate with management when there is potential for shortage and/or overage of a specific cooked good
  • Accurately place orders from the vendors Magnolia partners with
  • Operate equipment safely and in line with best-use practices for each piece of equipment
  • Maintain a positive employee climate regarding the importance of cleanliness and sanitation
  • Work and interact with others in a manner consistent with the Magnolia culture
  • Proactively seek out development and training from the Assistant Kitchen Manager
  • Check with management any time quality of products is in question
  • Provide feedback and assist with the training of back of house staff 
  • Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize kitchen processes to Assistant Kitchen Manager
  • Contribute to a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Soft skills: Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; strong leadership skills with the ability to coach others
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of kitchen or baking experience in a high-volume restaurant on the line preferred
  • Special training or licenses/certifications: Food Handler's license required upon hire
  • General availability: Must be available to work flexible hours as assigned, including weekends, special events, and holidays as business needs require

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee operates in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role routinely uses sinks, dishwashers, and tools to clean kitchen appliances. The employee is frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals, and cleaning chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is intermittent sounds at a level sufficient to cause hearing loss or fatigue. The employee is subject to high temperatures and low temperatures. The employee is exposed to workplace hazards.
