Job purpose

Responsible for crafting and assembling metal structures, they meticulously interpret blueprints, cut and shape materials, and weld components to create the desired products, for the smooth running of the production business in the safest most efficient manner possible.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Read and understand engineering drawings, product schematics, blueprints, and assembly instructions to determine materials, task order and welding requirements.
  • Operate welding equipment to join metal components; to include, developing patterns and templates to guide layouts, marking cutting lines on material, and verify dimensions and product specifications.
  • Fabricate and repair metal components and structures; to include, welding, bolting, and riveting to connect components; setting up and operating heavy-duty metalworking machines to cut, bend, form, and drill metal.
  • Inspect finished welds to determine structural soundness and quality.
  • Use variety of welding techniques to include, tungsten inert gas (TIG), metal inert gas (MIG) and arc welding as needed.
  • Use hand tools and grinding equipment to prepare material for welding; to include, installing fabricated components into the final product.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on welding equipment.
  • Ensure that safety and quality control standards are met.
  • Test products for functionality and troubleshoot and stress test products to minimize problems or recalls.
  • Report and detail product malfunctions.

 

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 - 2+ years of experience as a fabricator
  • Completion of the established Skill Pie per location
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized.
  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.); ability to operate light equipment, good knowledge of mechanical devices.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Strong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
  • Forklift certification.
  • Current/active driver’s license

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Technical Degree, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 3 - 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience as a fabricator in a production/manufacturing setting
  • Welder certification
  • Crane certification

 

Working conditions

Travel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, deliveries, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed.
