What is the Opportunity?

The Water and Sanitation Technician will work under the direction of the Engineer and/or Program Manager. They are primarily responsible for field activities related to the implementation, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of water treatment systems, as well as overseeing sanitation projects, from exploratory visits to project completion. The goal is to ensure the functionality and operation of Water Mission projects in the Soconusco region, working full-time.

A successful Water and Sanitation Technician manages the following areas:

  • Maintain alignment and coordination with the Mexico Program.
  • Stay aligned with the Water Mission Mexico Program.
  • Build a strong relationship with the Engineering Department of the Mexico Program.
  • Prepare monthly activity reports for the work region to share with leaders.
  • Generate monthly UPTIME program reports.
  • Promote and implement the long-term operation of the Rural Water Cooperative.

Activities for Construction Program, Safe Water and Sanitation Technician at WM Mexico:

  • Develop work plans and schedules on assigned platforms monthly.
  • Maintain up-to-date databases for various Water Mission platforms weekly.
  • Generate monthly budgets.
  • Produce weekly expense reports.
  • Proper use of email and electronic equipment provided by Water Mission.
  • Complete and upload various forms on assigned days.
  • Handle various construction, measurement, safety, and inventory tools.
  • Install and maintain different water treatment systems.
  • Conduct technical field assessments to collect information for water and sanitation projects in the Soconusco area.
  • Oversee construction of pits, floors, and enclosures for sanitary latrines.
  • Comply with national and international guidelines and regulations, including permits and safety, and provide files and any other required technical documentation.
  • Interpret and read architectural, electrical, hydraulic, and foundation plans.
  • Monitor water quality, water production, and project uptime weekly in the Soconusco region.
  • Monitor the success standards of each project.
  • Install and maintain the water treatment system.
  • Handle concrete mixing.
  • Resolve conflicts using WM principles and values.

Maintain Healthy Relationships with Strategic Partners:

  • Generate agreements with participating communities.
  • Resolve conflicts that may arise between communities.
  • Create and sign cooperation agreements with communities.
  • Manage relationships with communities, representing the organization's values and principles.
  • Maintain a model of servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public, aligned with the organization’s mission and core values.
  • Participate in or lead internal activities aligned with the organization's mission and core values.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • Reside in Tapachula, Chiapas.
  • High school diploma with experience in construction, plumbing, and electricity.
  • 1-2 years of experience in construction or similar roles is preferred.
  • Valid vehicle or motorcycle driving license.
  • Basic skills in project planning and management.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 software.
  • Proven experience using personal computers and software related to the activities mentioned above.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving and vehicle care skills.
  • Passport and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to organize personal workload and deliver timely results.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours when needed.
