Job Title:High Ropes Coordinator                   

Department:Camp Ohiyesa

FLSA Status:Stipend

Status:Seasonal

Reports to:Program Director

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The High Ropes Coordinator is response for the High Ropes Adventure Program for campers and staff including instructions, safety of participants, supervision and training of the course, and maintains records of equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. To organize, develop, and implement a meaningful adventure program in high ropes geared to the appropriate ages, interests, and abilities of the campers or participants.
  2. To set up and take down necessary gear prior to and after each time the high ropes course is used.
  3. To establish clear safety guidelines for the program and to instruct staff and campers in these regulations.
  4. Supervise activities and counselors when the high ropes course is in use.
  5. With the approval of the Camp Director, must obtain any necessary supplies.
  6. Must care for ropes course and equipment throughout the summer, doing before and after camp inventories. These records are stored in the High Ropes shed.
  7. Must maintain a Ropes Log records which is stored in the High Ropes shed.
  8. Conduct training to counselor during staff training on the use of each high ropes element as well as conduct in services when deemed necessary by the Program Director.
  9. Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Must have training and experience in facilitating high ropes course programs and in all area of ropes course safety and maintenance.
  3. Should have a varied background and experience in camping, aquatics, and working with children.
  4. Should have a general understanding of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit – YMCA Camping Services goals and objectives.

  • Ability to stand, sit (including on the ground), and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities
  • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position (including from the ground) when interacting with children.
  • Capability to be actively engaging with youth outdoors for the majority of the day.
