Teen COORDINATOR Job Description

 

Job Title:Teen Leadership Coordinator            

Department:Camp Ohiyesa

FLSA Status:Stipend

Status:Seasonal

Reports to:Program Director

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Teen Leadership Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the implementation of the day-to-day Leaders in Training (LIT) and Counselor in Training (CIT) programs at camp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directs supervision and training of all LIT and CITs and provides direct leadership for each program.
  2. Develops and implements weekly schedule to include a variety of youth related leadership activities.
  3. Evaluates youth involved in each program and maintains records of the program.
  4. Develops an LIT and CIT program schedule prior to the start of staff training.
  5. Selects as well as oversees other leadership counselors who will be assisting in the implementation of the program.
  6. Submits program evaluation with recommendations for the following year.
  7. To consciously create a climate in camp that will foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and YMCA Camping Services.
  8. Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Has the ability to supervise and organize employees and volunteers under the Leadership Program.
  3. Must have or be willing to complete the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course.
  4. Should have a varied background and experience in camping, aquatics, and working with children.
  5. Should have a general understanding of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit – YMCA Camping Services goals and objectives.

  • Ability to stand, sit (including on the ground), and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities
  • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position (including from the ground) when interacting with children.
  • Capability to be actively engaging with youth outdoors for the majority of the day.
