Production Engineer

Summary/Purpose

This position is responsible for the mechanical development, design and implementation of process, machinery and tooling required to support new business launches.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

• Develop and maintain databases for all production tooling required to support new product running on all existing and new machinery. Create schedules required to meet overall project timing including design, quote, build and verification.
• Design new tooling based on JTEKT design standards when available and re-engineer designs when standards are not available.
• Thoroughly evaluate existing machine conditions related to new projects and make recommendations on actions required to maintain acceptable quality and reliability.
• Coordinate with both internal and external Jig & Tool suppliers to properly select the best option considering cost, capabilities and quality.
• Assist in the tooling cost estimation phase of creating prior consultation budgets.
• Install new tooling, perform capability studies, GR&R, in accordance to project schedules and quality gates.
• Solve difficult and complexed manufacturing issues on new programs as needed.
• Continually advance tool design technology to reduce tooling cost and lead time and improve productivity.
• Create work instructions and preventative maintenance procedures for critical and high wear tooling.
• Assist in creating machinery specifications for new equipment.
• Conduct new machine runoff either in person or remotely, assuring equipment meets all process, performance and safety requirements.
• Lead activity for machine / process modifications required to support new products.
• Create new production line layouts as needed.
• Assist in solving daily manufacturing issues as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• This position requires experience in complexed tooling/mechanism design and troubleshooting.
• Must be proficient in 3D CAD modeling software
• Must possess knowledge in the proper selection of materials, heat treatment, surface treatment and coatings, and mechanical components for the appropriate application in tooling design.
• The person must also be comfortable performing in a manufacturing environment and should have the ability to communicate and work effectively with people of differing backgrounds and responsibilities.
• This position may require infrequent travel both domestic and internationally as needed.

Education and Experience:

• The candidate should have a Mechanical Engineering Degree (BSME or MSME) and a minimum of 5 years Manufacturing Engineering experience.
