The Position
The Senior Financial Analyst will play a key role in the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis to management within Finance & Accounting and across the organization with an emphasis on grant and subsidy reporting. This role requires financial reporting and month-end close experience, solid understanding of accounting standards and practices, and the ability to work effectively with accounting and non-accounting personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries and schedules for month end closing
- Analyze results and trends, research and explain variances
- Complete all assigned account reconciliations accurately and in a timely manner
- Navigate GL and other systems to research items for month-end close
- Assist field with accounting questions and processes
- Explain and enforce accruals process
- Assist with the year end audit
- Special projects as needed
- Assist manager to define key procedures and tasks for staff accountants.
Qualifications
Education: BS/BA in Accounting (MBA/MPA and/or CPA a plus)
Experience: 5+ years financial reporting, general accounting or equivalent experience (Mix of public and private experience a plus. Telecom experience is preferred)
Key Competencies:
- Experience with month-end Financial Reporting and variance analysis.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to work with cross functional groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor communications to a broad audience.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to do data mining.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Advanced Excel skills working with large datasets is highly desired.
- Experience with Oracle EBS and database query tools preferred.
- Ability to respond and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment and offer innovative solutions.
