ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
What you will be doing:
Repair and maintain heavy industrial trucks and trailers, machinery, and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and equipment by performing the following duties.
- Ensure that all equipment safety devices are in good operating condition and make adjustments as needed, checking for loose bolts, structure cracks and worn components. Repair or replace protective guards and other safety features as needed.
- Comply with all company safety policies and Fit for Work policy, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate all company vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner.
- Troubleshoot, find and repair mechanical equipment as needed. Possess the ability to inspect used parts and determine if they need replaced or can be reused.
- Repair or replace defective parts. Lubricate and clean parts.
- Perform vehicle inspections, oil and filter changes and brake adjustments.
- Grease components, check and repair lights and other electrical components, check and repair hydraulic systems to include making and replacing hydraulic hoses as needed.
- Starts and drives repaired equipment to verify performance of vehicles, conformance to specifications and success of repairs.
- Completes job work orders using equipment maintenance system, recording materials used, type of work accomplished, and maintenance system codes.
- Perform diagnostics using computers and software.
- Assist with periodic inventory and equipment counts.
- All other assigned tasks

What you need to know:
Work Environment: Remote site – room and board provided at no cost while on location.
Due to the location and nature of the work you must possess a very strong safety culture.
Work Schedule: 11 ½ hours per day, 7 days a week during rotation.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred.
Experience: Five years of experience in repairing and maintaining Class 8 tractors and trailers or equivalent combination of diesel training/schooling and on-the-job experience in addition to:
- Experience with Cummins, Detroit, and/or Caterpillar engine maintenance and repair
- Five years of experience and/or training on troubleshooting and repairing heavy duty air brake systems
- Experience adjusting and troubleshooting Fuller transmission and clutch adjustments
Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate mechanical knowledge and be able to read electrical and mechanical schematics, repair manuals and job orders. Employee must demonstrate the ability to work alone or within a team environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Employee must meet Department of Transportation requirements and must possess a valid driver’s license. A Commercial Driver's License with Class A Air, Doubles, and Tanker endorsements is preferred. Employee must possess a brake certificate.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. - The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and occasionally move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Other Skills:
Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and customers in the English language.
Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
NOTE:
The Red Dog Mine is a remote location with rotational schedules. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work at a remote site for up to four weeks at a time and may be required to work different and varying shifts during the scheduled rotation.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing Protection and Respirators may be required at times. The ability to pass a respirator fit test is required.
