Job Overview:

Prometric is looking for an energetic, experienced agile leader who enjoys facilitating program execution, driving process improvements, managing risks, and program reporting. As a member of the Product & Technology organization, the Release Train Engineer (RTE) will be working with multiple sprint teams aligned on an Agile Release Train (ART) to ensure business value is delivered with quality and on time. The RTE is a lean-agile leader and will also be responsible for promoting agile values including promoting systems thinking, supporting the teams’ and trains’ commitments, leading change, and leading by example. In this hybrid role, the RTE will also act as a supporting scrum master for one ART scrum team.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As RTE:
    • Facilitates work for the Agile Release Train (ART) and is responsible for program execution, escalating impediments, managing risk, and helping drive continuous improvement for the ART
    • Enables PI planning readiness through pre-PI planning activities (backlog reviews, preparedness reviews)
    • Coordinates and executes the remote PI planning event, working with Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Business Stakeholders, and Prometric’s other Agile Release Trains
    • Assists with the development of PI Objectives and publishes for visibility and transparency
    • Tracks the execution of features and capabilities through metrics across the ART
    • Provides senior level reporting on ART metrics and Program Increment progress and impediments
    • Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the ART by facilitating ART level events and helping to manage risks and dependencies, escalating impediments as needed (Scrum of Scrums, ART sync, risk review meetings, etc.)
    • Facilitates system demos
    • Drives relentless improvement via post-PI activities including Inspect and Adapt workshops
    • Coordinate cross-train/cross-functional dependencies and activities as needed to deliver value across multiple ARTs
    • Participates in activities to continuously improve agile best practices
  • As Scrum Master:
    • Guide the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers 
    • Facilitate all Scrum meetings, such as sprint planning, retrospective and sprint demos 
    • Ensure all User stories are tasked out and estimated before Sprint planning  
    • Promote improved engineering practices through the retrospective meeting 
    • Assist the product owner with keeping the backlog groomed 
    • Understand the product area and help create Definition of Done 
    • Remove impediments or guide the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment 
    • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information 
    • Help teams be accountable for the commitments they make 
    • Help express requirements in independent, negotiable, valuable, estimable, small, and testable user stories            

 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Bachelor degree in related field
  • 7+ years experience in an agile/scrum environment; experience with Scaled Agile Framework is a plus
  • 5+ years leadership experience in related area (RTE, IT project management, technical program management, or scrum team leadership)
  • Experience working with remotely located global teams
  • Excellent project/program delivery track record managing IT software delivery
  • SAFe Certifications are a plus (RTE, Scrum Master, POPM, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal & written skills with the ability to communicate progress, impediments, and actions across large stakeholder groups
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong ability to organize and track multiple dependencies and raise impediments, with a focus on delivering on time, with quality, and desired value
  • Understanding and experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops is a plus
