Waste & Recycling Worker

PURPOSE:  To provide waste removal and related services in order to maintain a highest standard of cleanliness and safety at Mall of America.  To ensure guests to Mall of America have a positive shopping and entertainment experience. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: 

• Separate the waste from recyclables 

• Move wheeled recycling/trash bins from recycling rooms throughout the mall to loading dock and dump into proper container 

• Empty trash and cardboard containers into compactors and operate compactors 

• Sweep and operate a power scrubber to clean back of house areas 

• Operate pressure washing equipment 

• Sweep and mop waste room floors 

• Lift trash bags into waste containers 

• Empty grease barrels in restaurants and food court tenants 

• Operate electric tug to transport waste and cardboard containers in sublevel     

• Load cardboard and plastic into the proper baler and tie off the bales when full 

• Operate a forklift to move items on around loading dock 

• Monitor loading dock activity to ensure items are thrown away in the proper location 

• Ensure emergency stairwell and exits are clear of trash and debris 

• Ensure the overall safety of the immediate work area as well as surrounding areas 

• Regular, reliable and consistent attendance 

• Provide outstanding internal and external guest service at all times 

• Additional duties as assigned. 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age 

• Ability to work variable and/or rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays 

• Must be able to safely perform the physical tasks involved with lifting, sweeping, mopping, driving and operating powered industrial and custodial equipment

• Lift/carry more than 75lbs – occasionally, 20% of time

• Handle larger items, such as trash bags/containers-frequently, 90% time
