PURPOSE: Train new RAM Officers to Security Department standards as well as setting and maintaining a positive example.  To ensure guests, tenants and employees at Mall of America have a positive experience by providing unparalleled service related to emergency response, protection of life and property, identifying potential acts of terrorism and suspicious behavior. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Teach the Officer in Training (OIT) the field training program at Mall of America. Train new officers in various areas including but not limited to MOA and Security Department policies and procedures, guest relations, and tenant relations.  Training methods should include classroom or book learning as well as hands-on learning to include the use of scenarios and/or red teams. 

  • Evaluate the performance of the OIT during the training period and maintain accurate and updated documentation. 

  • Complete all Daily Observation Reports. 

  • Provide positive feedback or correction to facilitate the learning process. 

  • Set a positive example for the OIT and maintain standards of professionalism. 

  • Enforce MOA rules and policies, as well as state and local statutes.   

  • Deter terrorist activity by patrolling MOA, looking for suspicious behavior, suspicious items, and suspicious vehicles. 

  • Conducts security interviews on persons displaying suspicious behavior.  

  • Request the assistance of police and/or other federal law enforcement agencies as necessary. 

  • Provide outstanding guest service.   

  • Utilize quick decision-making skills and sound judgment acting in accordance with MOA Security policy and procedure as well as state and local statutes.   

  • Write detailed and accurate reports as required.  

  • Ensure proper radio traffic which includes keeping Dispatchers and Supervisors informed of all pertinent incidents and activities according to department guidelines. 

  • Uphold high personal and professional standards as set forth by the MOA Security Department 

  • Maintain and update the RAM FTO manual. 

  • Conduct training to security and other departments as assigned. 

  • Regular, reliable and consistent attendance 

  • Additional duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

  • Possess a valid driver's license. 

  • Six months of on-the-job experience. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 

  • Superb knowledge of MOA Security policies and procedures. 

  • Strong leadership skills. 

  • Excellent customer relations skills. 

  • Capability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations, utilizing rational thinking and decision making. 

  • Ability to accept direction. 

  • Ability to work variable and/or rotating shifts, which include nights, weekends and holidays. 

  • Be able to meet the physical demands of the position including: frequent and sustained walking, occasional running, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling and frequent and extensive use of hands and arms. 

  • Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively (i.e. timely and effective response to emergency situations). 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

  • Post secondary education. 

  • Military experience. 

  • Strong leadership skills.  

  • Previous teaching experience. 

  • Current certification as an Instructor in courses offered by MOA Security. 

  • Working knowledge of state and federal criminal justice statutes and law enforcement procedures.
