Manage all efforts relating to the collection, review, and approval of subcontractors, subconsultant, and vendor insurance as it relates to property management, development and construction.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Evaluate issues relating to insurance for subcontractors, subconsultants, and vendors.  Understand when issues must be elevated and have the ability to clearly communicate and provide a recommendation.
  • Develop, motivate, and foster positive relationships across operational groups and departments within L+M subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Evaluate and streamline processes relating to insurance to balance operational needs with risk management requirements.
  • Perform reviews of contracts as it relates to insurance requirements for upstream and downstream parties.
  • Manage, hire, and train insurance staff.
  • Perform quantitative analysis, provide reporting, and host meetings with key stakeholders to update, assess, and make recommendations.
  • Evaluate and recommend insurance options related to renewal coverage across the organization (development, construction, and property management).
  • Manage relationship with insurance brokers and carriers including the placement of insurance policies for Development, Construction and Property Management Business lines.
  • Review insurance policies for proper issuance.
  • Experience with claims examples is recommended. 
  • Communicate effectively both in written and verbal communications with business partners within the company (builders, development, property management and corporate departments) as well as outside the company (subcontractors, development partners, vendors, design consultants, and insurance brokers / underwriters).
  • Display strong fact-finding abilities and follow- through to resolve issues.
  • Determine the priority of assignments based on critical deadlines that must be met.
  • Display leadership abilities and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Understand insurance industry standards and trends, especially as related to the construction industry.   
  • Prior experience working for a construction company and/or familiarity with construction terminology is useful.
  • Knowledge of insurance terminology, types of policies and insurance coverage (e.g. general liability, professional liability, excess liability, auto liability, and workers' compensation) is required.
  • Experience with controlled insurance programs (OCIPs and CCIPs) and a captive insurance company is desired.
  • Work experience with underwriting and claims management is desired.


Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) certification is recommended.
  • Associate of Risk Management is recommended.
  • New York State Property and Casualty Broker’s License is recommended.


Minimum Years of Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 8 years of residential and/or commercial construction experience is required


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Familiarity with SAGE, Procore, Timberline and Timberscan is recommended
