Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a motivated individual who will be responsible for coordinating with operations to plan and facilitate the accomplishment of preventative maintenance and repairs for all AML facilities by acting as a lead on assigned projects. This is a safety sensitive position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform and review inspections of marine terminals and equipment
  • Field and respond to requests for maintenance from remote terminals
  • Plan, estimate and get approval for facility repairs identified from inspection reports
  • Issue and approve PO for facility repairs
  • Provide guidance in the operation and maintenance of facilities and marine structures including pavements, buildings and rail marine terminal utilities
  • Produce documents including drawings and specifications for maintenance and operation of marine terminals
  • Prepare cost estimates and time schedules for proposed maintenance activities and projects at the budget phase and throughout project
  • Work within the scope of cost, quality, and time parameters established
  • Provide alternatives when analyzing and evaluating maintenance and operation’s impact for specific marine terminal systems and situations
  •  Solicit and compare bids from contractors for outside repairs and maintenance
  • Supervise and review contractor performance
  • Inspect and verify work of contractors prior to payment approval
  • Document and maintain records of facility repairs for prosperity and to track trends
  • Create, update and maintain inspection records for equipment at marine terminals
  • Create inventory of equipment for each facility and maintain specifications on all items
  • Update equipment specifications as items are repaired or replaced over time
  • Assist in capital asset and expense budget planning

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school education or GED required. Minimum 5 years maintenance required. Minimum 4 years’ experience in a supervisory role required.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.  Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).  Able to meet forklift certification requirements. Identification or passport valid for travel required. Shipyard competent person certificate.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to meet a flexible work schedule.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, nights and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to travel for work up to 25% of the year.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. Daily physical presence is required.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to change focus and job duties in a fast moving, time restricted environment.
  • PC skills required:  Windows, Excel, Outlook, keyboarding proficiency.
  • Ability to operate and maintain excavator, skid steers, forklift, backhoe and other facility equipment.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of winches, asphalt and concrete.
